Home Gym

We finally finished our home gym! The project took a few months but it was so worth it. We started construction in January and finished in early March. My goal for 2024 is health and wellness and this space is one that will help with that goal. Details from the space are linked below and in LTK.

Home Gym Organization

I found this wooden organizer and decorative storage baskets from Target. The organizer came in a few colors but I loved the natural wood because it matches our floors! I added jump ropes and bands to the baskets for a clean look. We also love these microfiber towels! I rolled them up to give a spa like feel and added some greenery to complete the look. We put our shoes at the bottom part of the organizer. The organizer does come with a lot of pieces but it was fairly simple to assemble.

Home Gym Equipment

We purchased the majority of our exercise equipment over the last few years. Gym equipment can get expensive so it’s best if you invest in some key pieces. In our space, we have a bench press, mounted folded squat rack, a pulley machine with several attachments, a dips bar, dumbbells, and a free bench.

We also purchased a few weight trees to store our plates and plan to purchase a mount to store the pulley machine accessories.

We have a Sole treadmill and an AFG Sport treadmill. I like the Sole because it inclines to 15 rather than 12 so a great treadmill for incline walking. The AFG Sport is a better running treadmill.

We also invested in the Normatec compression system to assist with recovery. We used the Normatec as college athletes and loved it!

We need a few yoga mats for the cardio space and it will be complete!

Home Gym Lounge Area

If you have the space I recommend adding a lounge area to your basement gym. Basements can be used for several things and we didn’t want the entire space to be a gym so we added a lounge.

Our love seat is super comfy and these barrel chairs are perfect for this space. The chairs are super easy to assemble and easy to wipe down!

We purchased three glacier bay mirrors. I will say that hanging three mirrors side by side is not for the weak. The upside is that you save more by combining three mirrors rather than purchasing one large one. We mounted the mirrors with the hardware that comes with the mirror and a J mount mirror mold on the bottom.

Walls

Paint selection was a big decision. We have light colors in the majority of our home but in the basement we wanted to go dark and I am so glad we did!

Our wall decal is from Amazon. It did take three of us to install it, only because of the size. But it went on smoothly and has held up! You can customize the message to say anything you’d like!

Technology

The space has two televisions and a projector. One LG TV sits above the organizer in front of the treadmills and the other LG TV is mounted on the wall beside the projector screen.

The projector screen took three people to mount only because of the size. I will also add that assembling the screen takes patience. It’s not super hard but requires lots of pieces. The projector was easy to mount and install.

Flooring and Lighting

We used 1/4” inch thick gym flooring under our gym equipment and smart core vinyl plank in the lounge area and cardio space. The light wood looks so good with the blue paint!

Lastly we added strip lighting to the ceiling. The strip lighting can be any color that you can imagine. It comes with a small remote controller to change the color. It was super easy to install as well!

Our home gym has been one of my favorites projects to date. It has been incredibly convenient to exercise in my home while the kids are sleep. I feel incredibly grateful for this space.
